FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia has revealed that it's planning to launch a Windows 8 tablet in a bid to turn around the company's fortunes.
During an interviw with the Financial Times, Nokia chairman Jorma Ollila said that getting a tablet out to the market will be an important step for the company, one he believes will make a "big difference" to the flailing firm.
"Tablets are an important one, so that is being looked into, and there will be different hybrids, different form", he said, hinting that Nokia could launch something similar to either the Samsung Galaxy Note, or even better, the Asus Transformer Prime.
Although he revealed no specific details, Ollila also hinted that Windows 8 will be the tablet's operating system, adopting Microsoft's metro-style user interface.
"We haven't announced anything specifically about tablets. I say that over and over again," he said.
"But when you look at it and think about what people are expecting in their digital life, they are expecting some uniformity of experience across their phones, their tablets, their PCs, their automobiles, their gaming platforms.
"We are very interested in the Metro user interface and Metro is clearly the big bet for Microsoft... But again, no specific announcements ... but [it is] something we are interested in."
With Windows 8 set to be released around October this year, it looks like we've still got a wait on our hands until we see the Finnish phone firm's first tablet.
Nokia declined to comment on rumour and speculation.
