They did make some good quality stuff, no doubt. West German products were as good if not better in some other products like cars and machines.

West german products are still 1st rate. They've never took their eye off the ball.

If you are looking for German tools go to Thailand e.g. screw drivers, wrenches, etc. The shops there still sell a wide range of quality german tools & instruments. Unlike in Spore where they're more likely to carry crappy made in China stuff

Is that so? I have no reason to go there plus the wifey will kill me if I go alone. The prices of German made stuff here is very expensive but can last. The Americans do make good tools too especially those use in the aircraft repair and maintenance business.

Following my Thai friend on his errands has given me an interesting insight into Thai thinking. The tools he buys is for his electronics servicing business are not cheap.

German imports might be expensive but the Thais do appreciate the quality & are obviously buying them because the shop I went to had a large selection of Japanese, american, German,... tools & instrument. Some of the tools are very specialised & I've never seen anything like it in any store in Spore.

In Spore because of the high cost of doing business & cheap mentality I doubt you will find a store selling as wide array of such high quality tools.

Are you referring the the store at Shaw Centre 2nd or 3rd floor

My office used to be in that building & I would spend my lunch time window shopping
It's got some nice tools for the handyman but nothing to compare to the store I saw in Bangkok. Unfortunately you have to know Thai to get to that place.

As Spore is part of this dirty "neighbourhood" I don't see how our politicians/GLCs can be any different then our neighbours :o

Singapore can't make it - If true to the words, he can always say that it's the odds & the way neighbouring countries are ostracizing Singapore making it impossible for Singapore to survive! But in reality Singapore made it and he now claims sole credit for it's success and at the same time still flagging the bogeyman's shadow wherever he goes & and whatever he says! Pause for a moment & think, if the trade of Singapore has been hampered, does it benefit any of the ASEAN nation? It's a big definite no because of air & sea transportation access that Singapore has & no other countries in Asean has. Look back into the 80s & 90s, Singapore was a Asian Tiger Economy with no FTs, whatever happens to the momentum from then? Suck dry by the regime? Most probably if not definitely! Thus the big spiral downwards! Highly paid do not equate to no corruption, greed equates only to greater greed!
