</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Tuesday's announcement by the Land Transport Authority on the finalised names of the MRT stations along the Downtown Line stages 1 and 2.
The choice of the name Tan Kah Kee for one of the stations on the Downtown Line to replace its previous working name of Duchess is problematic. The name does not reflect the place, which is not associated with Tan Kah Kee.
MRT stations named after people are not unknown, such as Boon Keng and Boon Lay, named after Lim Boon Keng and Chew Boon Lay respectively, but these are names that have been associated with the places for a long time.
Although Tan Kah Kee is the founder of Chinese High School, the predecessor of Hwa Chong Institution, his name should not be used for the MRT station as it may cause confusion among the public.
A better name would be Coronation station, as it best reflects the royalty-based road names in the area, such as Coronation Road, Duchess Road, King's Road and Queen's Road. Koh Chin Aun

When will these highly paid ass holes learn. Now Tekka market is back to its original name. Hopefully they will come up with high class sounding name like compassvale again or Buckingham.

Well said bro. Just where is the close association/connection of Tan Kah Kee (with the deepest respect to the late philanthropist) to the place other than being founder of Chinese High School. The station name should instead closely reflect the neighbourhood and indeed Coronation sounds right.;)

These are subtle hints that are dropped here and there on bad times to come.

Tan Kah Kee = Earn Own self

Next time there will be Jia Kah Kee = Eat Own self, meaning you are on your own, buddy!

Mah Bow Tan will declare that they will need 200K to find another name for it
