What migrant workers love about Singapore
"Getting around in Singapore is very easy." said one foreign worker.
Another said: "I don't feel any distinction here. On the MRT, I have not encountered people saying: 'You are a foreign worker and I am a Singaporean - you stand while I sit.'"
Embracing differences and promoting harmony through integration is the theme of this year's Migrant Workers Centre (MWC) dormitory roadshow.
The four-day event held at different dormitories around Singapore will be attended by some 12,000 migrant workers.
The roadshows are organised by the Migrant Workers Centre which was set up in 2009 to champion fair employment practises and the wellbeing of migrant workers in Singapore.Speaking to the media at the roadshow, Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, chairman of the MWC addressed Singaporeans' concerns over the increase of migrant workers here.
"Because of the economic growth, we see more foreigners around. (Due to) the shortage of new dormitories on the market, many of them rent HDB flats. I think that caused worry." The MWC plans to work together with Residents Committees in these HDB estates to educate residents to understand the culture and expectations of foreign workers.
