Apologies for a newbie's first post but after following this forum with great interest I hope the old-timers don't mind this initial tryst - whilst speaking to someone over the weekend, it was mentioned that when in 2009 LKY travelled to M'sia and meet Rosmah Mansor one-on-one which raised eyebrows at that time (even
though it was claimed then that it was because Najib-Rosmah were a team and hence the need to understand each of them - stark contrast to the approach taken to Abdullah Badawi and wife Jeanne Abdullah/Mahathir and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali).

It started chatter that Singapore intelligence had indeed compiled a substantive file on Najib, Rosmah and the Mongolian Altantuya and the meeting was a gauntlet moment which eventually led to resolution to a number of bilateral stalemates in Singapore's favor/terms - some commentators went further to claim that thereis enough damning evidence in the dossier to "nail the husband and wife’s balls on the public gallery" and in a twisted realpolitik manouevre, "plan to control Najib’s administration remotely from Singapore".

This visit is cited as a pivotal turning point.

Just wondering those who are in the know think given recent developments (in particular the KTM issue resolution and the cross-border enthusiasm for the Iskandar project)?

If things are going on Singapore favor why the need for us get upset ?Unless if you are a Malaysian Chinese !

Whom comes to Singapore crying of Malaysia's racism ---and milk our kindness with jobs, education and etc ;only to leave for Malaysia to enjoy the retirement.Something no Singaporean can avail himself.Nor Malaysian Chinese any extra kind to us while we are in Malaysian tuft---we only meet the ugly arrogant Malaysian Chinese.

Yes! -LKY meeting with Rosmah raised eye brows in diplomatic circles. Not only it's beyond protocol but for an elderly statesman to meet the wify of a newbie PM of yours is more of paying homage than anything else. The only question is why the need to.The answer could be that Rosmah is a person with a huge ego who actually calls the shot and has Najib tied to her apron string is quite well known in Malaysian politics. This is a more plausible answer than that our Singapore intelligence has photographic proof of Najib with Mongolian Altantuya in Shangrila Hotel as rumored. Not that Najib is any cleaner nor that Mongolian Altantuya never met Najib in Singapore.

The point being ,LKY need not meet Rosmah to intimidate her and thereby having Najib dancing to our tune.Because if LKY had any of Malaysian PM wrapped around his finger dancing to our tune than it must be Addullah Badawi. As according to Raja Petra,LKY financially helped Badawi to unseat Dr.Mahathir.The humiliation of Mahathir aftermath both being manhandled physically and denied freedom of speech, not to mention his pet project of the crooked bridge across the causeway suddenly stopped was really Badawi pleasing LKY.Many of Malaysian state assets under the guise of privatization was also sold to LKY crony companies during Badawi tenure as the PM.

Hence LKY meeting Romah was a kowtowing of sort which the Malaysian first lady desired. To flaunt her importance as she wanted to be known as the first lady while the wify of the Agong is the real first lady.As much as Rosmah coveted herself with full page advertisements while on official tour in US.

It is us Singaporeans who need to know why is our elder politician going around having private meeting with another nation's PM wife for reasons that is neither political nor personal.

It looks like Najib is scoring a lot of brownie points with his initiative.Even Mahathir, the willy nilly old goat approves.

TUNNEL LINK

1. It is heartening to see Malaysia and Singapore agreeing on a sub-sea tunnel to connect the two countries. The bridge that will not be built now is planned to have eight lanes. This is of course due to the expected heavy traffic.

2. The question is whether the tunnel can provide for this volume of traffic. An eight-lane tunnel would have to be very wide or it will need two tunnels. Even if it is a double-decker like the Smart Tunnel in Kuala Lumpur, it needs to be very tall especially as it must cater for the heavy vehicles with their containers etc.

3. Because it will be far below the sea-bed it will have to begin and end far inland as lorries and trucks need gentle gradients. It can be as far as four kilometres for both ends. This, together with the undersea part will stretch the tunnel to almost eight kilometres.

4. If the Singapore MRT is going to use it as well, there must be at least another tunnel. Trains need even more gentle slopes. So the length might be more than eight kilometres.

5. Can Malaysia afford the cost of half this project, assuming the other half will be borne by Singapore? The project will cost billions and will take very many years to complete.

6. When completed I hope the causeway and the railway line will be removed. We will not need them anymore. Then water will flow east west and vice-versa. And small boats will be able to use the Tebrau Straits without having to go around south of Singapore.

7. Both Singapore and Malaysia will benefit from the removal of the causeway.
