He flew in from a visit to South Korea where he attended the Asean-Korea Commemorative Summit and had bilateral talks with Korean leaders.
And Mr Lee got down to work almost immediately, kicking off with an hour-long talk in the evening with Zhao Hongzhu, Party Secretary of the Zhejiang Committee of CPC.
Both sides pledged to boost economic cooperation between Singapore and Zhejiang - and shared their experiences in the global economic crisis. Singapore and Zhejiang province, both heavily dependent on foreign trade, have been hit hard by the global downturn.
Mr Zhao stressed China's need to keep the economy growing to provide jobs - for a rise in unemployment could bring about political instability in the country.
Mr Lee shared the measures Singapore has taken to help companies cut costs and save jobs. While this is a success, he said the government and employers could not keep up with it if the recession persists. He said in the longer run, Singapore would have to find new ways to grow the economy.
Mr Lee is due to meet more government leaders in Hangzhou, Ningbo and Shanghai in the next two days before flying home. He is also scheduled to meet local Chinese entrepreneurs.
Mr Lee will officiate at the work commencement ceremony for the Singapore Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai on Sunday. He will also attend the opening ceremony for the Ascendas Singapore Hangzhou Science and Technology Park today, as well as the official launch of Raffles City in Ningbo.
On Saturday, Mr Lee will grace the signing ceremony for Jurong International's District Masterplan for Ningbo Technology Park and Urban Design for Central District.
