what makes A GREAT GREAT WORLD great?

the natural dialects which singaporeans once remembered.

i laughed during the show but my son was totally blurred. he doesn't understand a word of those dialects. i realised singaporeans are losing their roots and the stupid SPEAK MANDARIN is really tyrannic.

could there be a secret message in this show?

REVIVE OUR DIALECTS. RETURN OUR ROOTS!!

it was the mixture of different dialects that make A GREAT GREAT WORLD so interestingly colorful and truly depicts what singapore really is.

now many kids are speaking mandarin and forgetting how to speak their natural dialect. singapore looks kinda of weird now. it's like taiwan but NOT really taiwan. there are many PRCs but not really china.

this locally made movie had left out many finer details of GREAT WORLD. i used to frequent this place after school.

the remote control racing cars on set-up race tracks was missing. the pinball tikam which was very popular kind of gambling machines was also not shown. this jackpot gadget was quite interesting. u slot in 10c, a shiny ball would dislodge. u then pulled the lever, released and let the ball hit as many target as possible. after the end of its trail, points were displayed on the LED screen. on achieving certain points, u would win a jackpot and lots of 10c coins would be discharged.

then there were simple electronic arcade games liked KILLER SHARK or SPACE INVADERS and etc.

another iconic game during GREAT WORLD era was the bumping cars ride. that was also left out.

overall, A GREAT GREAT WORLD is a good reminisence of one of the entertainment during the 60s.

the trouble of bringing kids to watch the show would be the difficulty for theem to understand multi-dialects spoken during the entire show. we may ve eternally lost GREAT WORLD but at least we should make an effort to preserve our natural and colorful dialects which is a symbol to our origin.
