New face in central executive committee

THE ruling People's Action Party (PAP) saw a new face elected to its highest decision-making body yesterday.

In secret ballots cast by party cadres, Mr K. Shanmugam, who was appointed Law Minister in 2008 and Home Affairs Minister this month, was one of 12 elected to its central executive committee (CEC) for the next two years.

The other 11 members are from the previous CEC. They are:

# Mr Lee Hsien Loong

# Mr Goh Chok Tong

# Mr Lee Kuan Yew

# Mr Lim Boon Heng

# Dr Yaacob Ibrahim

# Mr Wong Kan Seng

# Mr Teo Chee Hean

# Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam

# Mr Khaw Boon Wan

# Mr Lim Swee Say

# Mr George Yeo

Another two, placed 13th and 14th in number of votes, were co-opted.

They are: Mrs Lim Hwee Hua and Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

Going by past practice, the CEC will in the near future co-opt another four into the committee.

The PAP's constitution says no more than six may be co-opted to join the 12 elected members of the CEC.

Members of the previous CEC who were not selected yesterday were: Mr Mah Bow Tan, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Ms Indranee Rajah, Dr Ng Eng Hen and Mr Teo Ser Luck.

All five had been co-opted members of the last CEC.

really bizzare...if PM is calling for young blood and continuity...why the CEC comprise all the old faces?

Shouldn't it be time to intro new faces? MM should honorably retire liao...like MVP retire the jersey like that...
