SINGAPORE: The ruling People's Action Party on Tuesday briefed its Members of Parliament on the upcoming report on the review of political salaries.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had announced the review at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Cabinet in May 2011.

PAP MPs Channel NewsAsia spoke to said while they were given an update on the recommendations, they did not get the hard copies of the report. One MP confirmed that Prime Minister Lee and most of the Cabinet ministers were present at the meeting.

It is understood that Mr Lee and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is Minister-in-charge of the Civil Service, gave the MPs insights into the recommendations put forth by the committee.

Another MP told Channel NewsAsia that the salary quantum proposed is "in line with market expectations".

MPs added that the report will be debated when Parliament sits on January 16.

The first sitting for the new year will be on January 9. That sitting is expected to focus on several questions being tabled on the recent flooding and the spate of MRT disruptions.

The report on ministerial pay is expected to be made public soon.

Like the old days, the flyers would be distrbuted, "AKAN DATANG", the posters would be raised at the cinemas, at the Akan Datang section. Some will still remain at the AKAN DATANG section for a long time & quietly taken down & never shown.

What will the bet be? 10% & based on the top 10 wealthiest gamblers at MBS & RWS? mmaybe?

They are going to debate on the report?

And if the recommendation is not to their expectation ( too low ), what's next? Shred it?

This is the market rate for Royals...

According to one PAP member, such pay no dignity leh.

Spain's royals reveal salaries for 1st time, King earns $495,000 a year

MADRID (AFP) - Spain's scandal-hit royals revealed their detailed income for the first time on Wednesday, showing King Juan Carlos received a salary plus expenses of 292,752 euros (S$495,466) in 2011.

The 73-year-old King's state grant of 140,519 euros was supplemented by 152,233 euros to cover expenses for official duties, said the accounts, published on the royals' website http: www.casareal.com.

Prince Felipe, 43, who is married to former television news presenter Princess Letizia, had half of that figure, which would be 70,260 euros in a state grant and 76,117 euros in expenses.

All top salaries including those of the royal family were cut by 15 per cent in 2010 and frozen in 2011, a palace official said.

If the review and revision not up to peasants' expectations, the next salary review will be done in GE2016.

Before you ask about market rate, you must first defined what type of market you are talking about. There is FREE market, and MANIPULATED MONOPOLISED market. So before talking about market rate, it is best and more meaningful to define what type of market it is.
