<!-- story content : start --> BARELY 48 hours after its much-hyped launch on Saturday, organisers of the Singapore World Cup Festival 2010 have decided to cancel the event.
Live music acts, a gaming zone, cheerleaders and a beach soccer tournament with a top prize of $25,000 had been planned for the 17-outdoor party at Sentosa's Siloso Beach. But the festival, which was the first-ever Fifa-sanctioned public viewing in Singapore, was closed down on Monday.

Events company Wharf House had secured exclusive rights from football's governing body last month to organise commercial public screenings of World Cup matches in Singapore. It had also threatened to produce injunctions against other unauthorised mass screenings that had planned to charge entry fees or attract sponsors to their event.

Citing poor attendance over the opening weekend as a major factor, Wharf House's chief executive Tom Houseman said: 'It's a big disappointment for us. Our challenge, however, has been to generate sufficient visitor numbers to justify the continued operating expenses.' While the 107,600 sq ft viewing site at Siloso Beach could hold an estimated 15,000 people, organisers did not anticipate the low turnout, particularly on Sunday when only about 500 showed up to watch the mouth-watering tie between England and Germany.

First of all, where is the fucking publicity? I did not even know about it. Secondly, good luck to them for trying to fuck us with injunctions to other places putting up large screens. Good riddance to these angmohs trying to rip us off.

Fuckers!

dey shud gif all tickets free 2 moe ... wat a waste! ...

I got the flyer in my letterbox last week, too little too late.

After England lost, the big crowds are gone.

Hahaha, idiot better go back home lah, come S'pore and try to screw us! Screw you!

I'm glad to see my message is finally getting through.

More and more people are realising that soccer isn't a beautiful game.. it's a STUPID game full of cheats, blind referees, hooligans and morons.

The sooner it's banned from the face of this earth, the better it will be for mankind.

Orbi good......serves them right for being greedy...most of ushave wisened up and gone online to catch the matches.....

ok, for once....the ang mohs are caught unprepared by the low turnout...where is the location? Sentosa?

fuck lah...ask me pay cover to go there, after which difficulty to get taxi out. And parking there is fucking ex...add all the sums, i might as well stroll to a pub and watch in aircon comfort and after which, can get home easier.

there? go feed mosquitos?

This is great news.

It could be even better if it comes out that the 2 telcos incurred a huge loss due to their greed. I'll probably 'tai kuei pai xin'.

Huh? Can sue other people for mass screening WC matches and charging entry fees? That's anti-competitive!

I only found out about it last night during the highlight segment before the Holland match. It already looked empty.

Yea good luck to them. They have to fight PAP and Macdonalds! :)

i heard starfuck/sinktel have just raided some small pubs in middle road who flouted the number of Tv screen licensing rule. Looks like our telcos are in a rush to squeeze every last cent out of small businesses.

World cup is supposed to be a happy event for all football fans, yet our telcos are out to ruin it. Haven't the pubs already paid an arm and leg to subscribe? In the first place, why didn't they charge by number of seats instead of Tv screens?

I hope in 4 years, free streaming will be available to everyone. Then Fifa and our telco bullies will go and eat grass.

grow up lah. just because you don't watch football doesn't mean the rest of the world shouldn't too.

Just wondering. why do you hate it so much? did a football hit you hard in the nuts when you were a kid?

I enjoy playing football. I was in the school team.

What I despise is the sham that football has become. The system is a scam. The players could win oscars for acting and the fans are raving lunatics.
