feeling a bit nostalgic lah :p:p:p

Being born in the 70s and having been made to sing all those songs with great patriotic fervor and gumption, does not one feel a sense of abject betrayal by the constant barking of PAP on how we are nothing if not for the foreign "talents" they bring in?

this will rank as one of the top 3 national day songs together with "count on me singapore" and "stand up for singapore". ;)

Was still a schoolboy back then when this song was introduced to all schools in Spore.. We were made to sing the song in the school hall few weeks before National Day.. All of us were taught to be proud of the achievements of our tiny Island and proud to be a Sporean.. As a naive young schoolboy aged barely 10, I truly believed in every words in the lyric of this song.. I was proud to be a Sporean.. Those were the good old days.. Ask me now whether I'm proud to be a Sporean or not and I'll say that the only time I really feel like a proud Sporean again was when attending Opposition party rallies...Thats the only time when I really feel proud to be a Sporean standing side by side with my fellow countrymen..

I prefer the updated version

We Are Chin Kang Kor
(to the tune of 'We Are Singapore')

There was a time when people said our bus fares won't increase
But it did
There was a time when people thought our CPF won't decrease
But it did
We built a nation,
With nothing free,
Reaching out together,
To grab all our mo-ney

Chorus 1:
This is my country, this is my flat
Is there a future, or am I mad?
What of my family, what of my friends?
We are chin kang kor, chin kang kor eh lang

Singapore, our homeland
Is ruled by one party
They've just stuck us with some more
Bloody GST
We worked so hard together,
What have we achieved?
Singapore forever,
Stuck with price increase

(Repeat Chorus 1)

(Sung)
We, the citizens of Singapore
Pledge ourselves as one diffi-cult people
Regardless of haze, weather or pollution
To complain about it equally
Whether statement, law or policy
Because we have much
Unhappiness
That we cannot
Express through elections

Chorus 2:
We are chin kang kor, we are chin kang kor
We will stand together and complain some more
We are chin kang kor, we are chin kang kor
We will kau peh kau bu, then kau peh some more

(Repeat Chorus 1 & 2)

We are chin kang kor, chin kang kor eh lang (x2)

So, do you now believe in the late JBJ who was actually maligned and a setup by PAP to ruined his reputation ? Now, he is setting up another one for the true blue Singaporeans to be destroyed.

He must have said, "Flee ! You ingrates should know better than to pit yourselves against me with the ballot boxes. It's your beloved old folks that you are fighting for their rights are turning their backs on you. Whereas, I have 'created' another 'citizens' to fight against you. Do you think you will win ? Migrate ! Go and don't come back. I don't need you. My son shall rule after me."

quite sure some of you may remember this song then...

this is my land, an island where i wander free
land of my birth, where my heart longs to be
her friendly shores welcomed our fathers long ago
this is our land oh Singapore, i love you so!

arise awake, our land is calling strong and clear
we will defend the isle we hold so dear
we all belong to this nation so brave and strong
this is our land oh Singapore, we love you so!

agree largely with what you bros said, me do feel a tinge of sadness...

Yes, this was formerly my island in the sun where I grew up and spend a part of my growing up days. Now only have memories and some photos to remind me.

Presently, this is no longer the same island as it was before and much as I regret the passing of time, one solace is I have the ability to move out as and when I am ready.

This old Singapore is dead and no longer exists.

Greed and short-sighted policies have exacted a heavy cost on this country.

Bit difficult now to tell the difference between a local Malay and a Pinoy..

Bit tricky now to tell the difference between our local Chinese and an Ah Tiong..

And the most very very difficult part is telling the difference between a local Mama and a bloody Ah Neh from India..

Are you implying that they have integrated well?

Local Malay vs Pinoy: pork and spicy food.

Local Chinese vs Ah Tiong: Say "Taiwan should be independent!" and watch response.

Local Indian vs India Ah Neh: cricket.

Now you know.
