Runaway horse terror of bride

A BRIDE told last night how she escaped death during a two-mile terror ride when the horse pulling her carriage bolted.

Sophie Clarke, 29, said her puffy DRESS saved her from serious injury as her quick-thinking dad threw her from the cart at 35mph.

The accountant was taken to hospital on a spinal board — and her £20,000 wedding was cancelled.

She said: “I was saved by my dad and my £2,000 wedding dress. I’m lucky to be alive.”

Saturday’s horror unfolded as Sophie went to tie the knot with fiancé Karl Wood in Bretforton, Worcs.

The two carriage drivers were hurled out when the horse was spooked, leaving Sophie and dad Bob clutching each other as they sped along busy roads.

A passing car was badly damaged when it swerved at the carriage in a bid to slow it down.

Then Bob, 56, saw them heading for a bend and threw Sophie clear before jumping. Amazingly, both escaped serious injury and were treated in hospital. Groom Karl, 36, feared he had been JILTED before rushing to see Sophie.

He said: “It was terrifying.” They now plan a low-key ceremony next month.
