Nov 17, 2010
TEHRAN — Iran’s armed forces have intercepted six
“unknown planes” that intruded into the country’s
airspace during aerial defence manoeuvres, the
spokesman for the exercise was quoted as saying
on Wednesday. “Yesterday (Tuesday) our forces
reported intrusion of six unknown planes into our
space, prompting us to fly our jet fighters and
carry out interception operations,”
General Hamid Arjangi told Fars news agency.
“Also our artillery systems were alerted, targets
were identified and pursued and necessary warnings
were given,” he added, without giving details.
Tehran, which is at odds with the West over
its nuclear programme, launched the aerial
war games on Tuesday.
