The National Environment Agency has called for proposals to manage four existing hawker centres on a not-for-profit basis. These centres are at Block 117 Aljunied Ave 2, Block 20 Ghim Moh Road, Block 207 New Upper Changi Road and Block 503 West Coast Drive.

The NEA in a media statement on Friday said that the leases on these four centres will expire in May, and it noted that a panel convened by the Government had recommended in 2012 that new hawker centres be run on a not-for-profit basis.

"The selected parties will be appointed as master tenants. This will allow them to operate the hawker centres using new models...We believe that these innovations could widen the diversity of affordable food options and dining experiences, as well as provide employment opportunities for Singaporeans and permanent residents," it said.

In its call for proposals, the NEA added that the master tenants could take over the upkeep of the hawker centres from the respective town councils, "to achieve economies of scale as well as gain greater control of the entire hawker centre".

A $2.00 GLC company will be set up to bid for the contract...than profit will be the main motive

Sounds like they're planning to transform some hawker centres into low class co-op food courts, run by one of their cronies at Koufu, Kopitiam or NTUC Foodfare etc.

Yep, not even going to spare the hawker centres. :kma:

=> Why should we think of how to generate employment of hawker opportunities for PRs??? What are NSmen defending??? Yet another devious attempt by the FAP Traitors to blur the distinction between SGs and foreigners to justify giving freebies to the latter!

Everything started with Not-For-Profit scheme but later will turn into profit running privatised coy.

Who dont want profit???
Who want to manage and clean hawker for free???
Very soon private will bid to take over the hawker and rising the hawker stall rent or each stall need to pay $2k per stall to collect bowl and daily table and floor cleaning.

Take NOTE on having a "master tenant", who is a major player in managing the hawker centre.
I smell it as hawker centre be transformed into Kopitiam concept, and NEA wash her hands away from any hike in rental fees and any unhappiness issue.
Remember how our HDB carparks have been transforming into private entities under their kaki companies.
