Now you know why WP lost in Aljunied. Put an ITE guy as the minority candidate.

Singapore eletorate are not idiots. Which means if PAP put a GRC of 6 unpopular MPs it will still lose. But if 1 or 2 are extremely popular, that can even out the borderline cases.

In a competition, even if you get the Champs because no one compete with you, do you still think you are the best in that competition? No! You will find no joy winning it, if you even treat it as a victory to start with.

I agree that there should not be any walk-over. In no contested GRC, people should still cast vote-of-confidence on the uncontested group to give them the mandate. Isn't the mandate the PAPies are looking for? Even for sure win GRC, having such votes will also tell you whether your support level has increased or decreased from last election.

Personally, I think it sounds like a good idea but practically its just a waste of taxpayers money. So what if they make us vote anyway and they only got 1% of the vote, we'll still be stuck with those jokers cause they are the only one there. Even if they put a monkey there, we're still stuck with it. Joy of winning or not, it doesnt matter, the fact is that they win, end of story. It is the oppositions job to make sure the wards are contested and frankly speaking they should really try harder to make that happen.
