Not having built a single one in 26 years, they now proclaim they understand the problem and will build one per year, over the next 10 years.
This is a sick joke or what?
This is the man, in response to Lily Neo in Parliament to a request for $30 more per month for the poor, said what kind of food the poor wanted - in a restaurant, in a food court or in a hawker centre.
The headline NEW HAWKER CENTRES TO BE BUILT is the lead story in Sunday Times today. Big Deal! Because the sub-head reads:
About 10 expected to be built over the next decade after 26-year hiatus.
His spin: "We're finding that more and more Singaporeans are eating out rather than cooking at home.(Woh, he learns something new about his constitutents every day). My main objective is to ensure that there continues to be a variety of good, affordable food stalls so that Singaporeans can have a choice."
In the meantime, Por Lam Par MP aka Liang Eng Wah welcomed the announcement. "It shows that the government does adjust its policies with time. (Every 26 years, Mr Liang? Impressive!)
