Virgin passenger arrested after hijack scare

The pilot of a Virgin Australia plane flying to Bali reported a hijacking attempt after a passenger tried to enter the cockpit, an Indonesian transport official said.

A Virgin spokesman denied the plane had been hijacked and said the passenger who tried to enter the cockpit was drunk.

The spokesman said the plane incident was a ‘misunderstanding’, not a hijack.

Heru Sudjatmiko, airport manager for Virgin Australia, told Metro TV that the passenger was acting aggressively and was handcuffed by the crew.

The plane landed at the country’s Bali airport, Indonesia’s Metro TV reported, quoting an Air Force spokesman.

Flight tracking website Flightrader initially reported the Virgin Blue flight VA41 was ‘hijacked’ en route from Brisbane, Australia.

A passenger has been arrested.
