Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh are preparing to deport a South Korean man who has overstayed his visa and worked illegally as a tour guide for almost three years.
Yu Seong Il, 51, has also been fined VND30 million (US$1,400) for the violation.
Immigration agencies said they have worked with the South Korea embassy in Hanoi to deport him.
He will be banned from entering Vietnam until 2018, local media reported.
Investigation found Yu came to Vietnam in 2012 but did not leave after his visa expired. He has been working as tour guide for many groups of Korean tourists since.
Officials in Ha Long checked his hotel room on February 5 but he failed to produce valid personal papers.
Vietnam does not allow travel companies to use foreign tour guides, but many still break the rules as saying that they could not find many local guides with strong foreign language skills.
