here's the truth:

read last line - btw NS and non-NS, a pay diff of 166 per mth. What a fucking joke.

166 x 12, not even 2000. 2 years = 4000.

So serving the nation 2 years, will earn you only 2000 more per annum (before CPF).

Based on avg pay of 2700, you are earning 6% more than your peers. KNS...i think based on your performance, your pay increment can be double or triple that.

SINGAPORE: Fresh graduates salaries are showing an upward trend this year, according to the Fresh Graduate Pay Survey by global management consultancy the Hay Group.

The findings showed engineering jobs are still in demand and fresh engineering graduates can expect to earn about $2,745 per month.

This is slightly higher than the starting salaries for jobs in the legal (S$2,738) and production (S$2,728) services for fresh graduates.

The survey in July this year drew participation from 100 companies across general industries in Singapore.

It showed that average starting salary for degree holders was S$2,593 per month.

Diploma holders are also expected to fare better this year in the jobs market.

Their average starting pay was $1,799 per month.

Design and creative jobs topped the list of hot jobs for diploma holders who can command slightly higher starting salaries of about $1,900 per month.

The survey said employers place a premium of 44.7 per cent for degree holders over diploma holders in terms of starting salaries.

The premium which employers place on a master's degree over general degree holders is lesser at 11.1 per cent.

One in four employer surveyed said they pay premiums to male employees who have completed National Service, with the average premium at S$166.

Quote by who? No company name?

Dip holders were at 1.8 a decade ago, It is still the same. Degree holders-Fresh graduates were always around the Zone of $2k - $3.5- Hasnt it always been the case?
I dont see this Article to be proving anything else other then saying wages have been stagnant even with the Influx of Foreign business and Investment. Also i believe this article is bullshitting.. Cos 1st of all, Most Local who enter the Working place has O.R.D and Only those in the Uniform sector etc Secruity offer a slightly more wages with N.S complement. N.S/Reservist puts you at a Disadvantage when comparing with Foreigners.

My staff are all women, therefore no issue with NS and reservists. Not because we deliberately don't hire NSmen but it's a small business requiring two female staff only beside me and my wife. Anyway, my wife is the Human Resource Manager. She recruits and manages the staff. Although no worry about staff going for reservist, there's still worry about pregnacy and maternity leave.

Reservist is a good opportunity for employers to replace their staff whether for financial reasons or just plain hatred for the staff. I encountered a few platoon mates who got told to look for new jobs after reservist. During reservist got no time for interviews, therefore most of them had to be jobless for at least a month after reservist just to look for a job.

staff getting preggy n maternity leave is another bane of SMEs...which runs smack of government's effort for us to propagate more. I know female friends around me who are hesitant to be preggy as they may lose their jobs, lose promotion, lose good appraisals.

also not all offices have facilities to allow milk expression during office hours...

Even nurses at hospitals get penalize for taking maternity leave. Maternity leave at hospitals is equivalent to MCs. If a nurse were to get preggy, she won't hope to get promoted next year. How shitty is that...Fuck up sinkeeland mentality and rules.

I recall that my friend had a case like that in which he sacked his employee. The employee came and told him, needed to go for 2-week ICT next week. My friend asked him, why he didn't notify earlier as ICT is usually notified 6 months in advance. The employee said he was applying for and expecting a deferment as he was applying for a course at SIM. However, he wasn't admitted and therefore, there'd be no deferment. My friend insisted, rightly, that he should have been informed earlier as to both the deferment and enrolment applications, and sacked him.

Employees are entitled to all his personal matters personally. However, matters that will affect his job position and performance, he should keep his employer informed. The employer would be more understanding instead of angry and have reasonable time to arrange for covering his job when he's not available.

This is a worldwide problem, sigh. Usually, the other staff just have to do more and help cover. Then, when it's their turn to get pregnant, others do more to help cover in return.

Sadly, this is the unspoken rule of all HR dept., Avoid giving any key positions to any SG males with NS obligations. Why use a SG who has to disrupt his duties now and then, when you can hire a FT who don't have such bullshit?

Come on! wake up. Even if I am a SG employer, I will not hire a SG to fill an important position. I will not admit it but will do it my way. Honestly, I will most likely to hire a Malaysian. Why risk disrupting my business because of this reservist crab? I will tell everyone I support reservist for my staffs but only the entry level positions. And if they don't perform and yet many reservist obligations, I have to let them go. Fair? This is business. Those who suffer under this scheme, please do not blame the employers, do blame yourself for voting the wrong party. Or did not convince those around you to vote wisely.

my ex company does not give a cent for rise for 2.5 NS

You have an interesting test case there. Anyone in the know care to answer the following question. I know companies are not allow to sack you when U are out on NS and reservist duties, but are they allowed to do so before the reservist duty starts as in after they receive the SAF100 thus preemptively sacking U before the reservist period?

that's not a rise, that's a drop!!! 10 years ago, the "best" diploma courses suppose to pay 2K+ per month according to surveys from graduates. BS Times.
