According to newly released Department of Justice figures, firearm-related homicides fell 39% over the course of 18 years in the USA while non-fatal firearms crimes have fallen a whopping 69% from 1993 to 2011, the Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announced. Firearm-related homicides dropped from 18,253 homicides in 1993 to 11,101 in 2011, and non-fatal firearm crimes dropped from 1.5 million in 1993 to 467,300 in 2011," says a press release from the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

-- Males, blacks, and persons ages 18 to 24 had the highest rates of firearm homicide from 1993 to 2010.

Easily explained in freakonomics. Abortion that was made legal decades ago killed the would be criminals before they were born.

So this means a pat on the back good ole Americans.. keep buying guns as statistics show that its not guns that kill people. Like in Wall Street, just how much of these numbers are fudged?

What the TS's figures don't say is that there was a sharp drop in gun ownership over that period. It also doesn't show that it is in the states with stricter gun control that saw the sharper drops in gun crime.

Actually no need to compare inside USA, just compare with other countries with strict gun laws...

Just how much school shootings do we have? Zero. Correlation between gun ownership and gun related crimes are at at amazing high. Yet they are being told that its not guns that kill people. Absurd.

The only parties profiting from all these laws are the gun companies.

gun ownership actually rocketed.................

Quite true.

In Spore, more pay for ministers = no corruption.

One fact about the USA is tat for the amount of gun ownership vs crime. The rates r very low compared to other countries. Also owning a gun is not as easy as its made out too be. Any way Charlton Heston said the right thing. Guns dont kill people. People kill people.

If Shane Todd owned a gun, he would not have been classified as a suicide.

I agree. More nuclear weapons in the world will mean less nuclear weapons-related deaths.
