SINGAPORE — A 79-year-old Singaporean man died of COVID-19 on Wednesday (4 August), the Ministry of Health said on Thursday.
The man sought medical treatment at Sengkang General Hospital on Wednesday for shortness of breath and low blood pressure, and was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on the same day. He was the 40th individual to have died from the infection.
“He had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and hypertension,” MOH said in its daily COVID-19 report.
The man’s death was the third COVID-19 fatality in four days following the deaths of a 34-year-old man from Ukraine on Sunday and a 58-year-old Singaporean woman on Monday.
On Thursday, MOH reported 98 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 65,508. Of these 96 new locally transmitted infections and the remaining two cases are imported.
