Two men arrested for theft onboard aircraft

SINGAPORE: Two men, aged 42 and 50, were arrested by airport police on Friday for committing theft onboard an aircraft.
The theft happened on board a SilkAir flight from Phnom Penh to Singapore.
According to a statement from police, as the plane arrived in Singapore, a male passenger discovered that A$2,300 dollars (about S$2,700) was missing from his hand-carry bag.
The bag had been placed in the overhead compartment.
A witness approached one of the cabin crew, saying that he saw one of the suspects opening the overhead compartment and taking the bag.
Meanwhile, the other suspect approached the passenger and returned the missing money to him. Both suspects were then detained and subsequently arrested by airport police.
They are expected to be charged in court on Saturday.
Police said 37 cases of theft from overhead luggage compartments onboard aircrafts have been reported so far this year, and 30 individuals have been arrested. - CNA/ac
