Two held trying to smuggle in drugs

SHAH ALAM: Two Indian nationals were arrested when they tried to smuggle in drugs worth more than RM1.5mil in two separate incidents. The seizures were made at the low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) on Thursday and KL International Airport (KLIA) on Friday.

In the 1.40pm operation on Thursday, police detained a 41-year-old man at the LCCT arrival hall and found 4.5kg of what is believed to be ketamine worth RM135,000. “We found the drugs in photo frames that were wrapped in nine gift packs,” Selangor narcotics chief Asst Comm Nordin Kadir told reporters at a press conference yesterday. ACP Nordin said initial investigations revealed that the suspect had entered the country for the 10th time since February.

At about 8am on Friday, police seized 5.8kg of what is believed to be syabu worth RM1.45mil from a 27-year-old man on the third floor of the KLIA. ACP Nordin said the drugs were hidden in 28 plastic packets and kept in a box. He believed both incidents were related to a big syndicate and that its modus operandi changed often to evade police checks.
