Two drivers caught for tampering with speed limiters in their heavy vehicles

SINGAPORE - Two men, aged 41 and 47, will appear in court on Wednesday (Sept 30) for tampering with the speed limiter in their heavy vehicles.
They were travelling at 75kmh and 73kmh respectively, which exceeded the vehicular speed limit of 60kmh for both.
Traffic Police discovered this while investigating 16 heavy vehicle drivers who were caught for speeding in July.

The 41-year-old driver will also be charged for not wearing a seat belt under Rule 4(1) of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Wearing of Seat Belt) Rules.
Motorists caught for driving above the allowed speed limits, driving a vehicle with a tampered speed limiter and/or for driving without the use of a seat belt, could be fined not exceeding $1,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding three months, or both, for each offence.
Repeat offenders may be punished with a fine not exceeding $2,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months, or both, for each offence.
The Traffic Police said it will be stepping up enforcement actions to deter and detect motorists who tamper with speed limiters.
