PRAGUE (AFP) -- Czech police said Thursday they had questioned and charged 12 current or former footballers suspected of match-fixing in several competitions.
"Twelve people have been arrested... in relation to suspected corruption in football, possible match-fixing in different competitions and related punting activities," anti-corruption squad spokesman Jaroslav Ibehej said in a statement.
Twenty others have been summoned for questioning and the police have also carried out 15 house searches, he added.
"Those arrested were subsequently charged with corruption crimes (bribery and accepting a bribe)," said Ibehej.
The Czech police are co-operating with their Slovak counterparts on the case.
Czech media have said top-flight sides FK Teplice and FK Jablonec were involved in the affair.
