“The percentage of each cohort of Singapore citizens entering university has consistently risen year on year: from 3% in 1965 to 5% in 1980 to 26% in 2010. The number of places available for Singapore students has increased every year. The percentage of the cohort entering local universities is projected to continue increasing to 30% by 2015.”

Tony, had used misleading figures before when justifying cpf cut in 2003 that sinkees salaries are higher than even the USA. Tony was caught using expats salaries instead of sinkees ones in the comparison. Of course ang moh expats in Singapore are given higher salaries than in their own countries back in 2003.

If you wind back the clock to 2003, we can see that Dr Tony Tan also used “funny” numbers to try and fool Singaporeans. Back then, the PAP had wanted to cut the Employer CPF contribution. To justify this, Dr Tony Tan quoted a PERC study which showed that wages in Singapore were supposedly higher than the US and Australia !
In quoting the numbers, Dr Tan forgot to mention that the numbers in the PERC survey was based on a perception study of expatriates in Singapore.
If we look at wage data based on local workers, we get a completely different picture.
