....possibly due to over-confidence from the start. After the opening gambit of inviting well-known bloggers and online critics (brilliant idea!) his team forget that at the end of the day, it is still the product, the product and the product.

a) they keep offering oranges when the customer wants apples (translation - lack listening skill)

b) they keep the same kind of oranges (one-price, one quality) to all customers, who are looking for apples, any kind of apples and even willing to accept rotten ones, so long as the product is not an orange. TT confirmed this strategy during the TV broadcast - he said he will tell all four visiting foreign heads of state the same message, in response to a question. All three other candidates say what they say will depend on the other party's situation, the relationship etc. (translation - I don't really care who my customers are, I want them to have oranges and nothing but MY brand of oranges.

c) it gets worse. He tells orange plantation owners how to grow oranges. (Hence the short lecture on negative equity in UOB Plaza Great Orange Sale where financial whiz kids love apples for rewards).

d) sharing a stage with a faded and former TV star and getting her to extol his virtues is bad enough. But to have someone who had disowned her own father saying so is not quite appropriate I would imagine.

e) the cheap publicity about hailing a cab after a rally is really just that - cheap. And not to mention vote-buying with a tip that is much higher than the fare. (Will EC look into this?) When one or two of his co-speakers were seen leaving with drivers and fancy BMWs. You can see that they were suitably embarassed.

f) the list goes on. You get the drift and a or whiff or two of the rotting oranges.

But the three sons' "press release" today is the unkindest cut.

For goodness sake, why didn't they seek professional help before issuing a press release which even a first-year communications student will tell you that more harm than good will come out of it. The reaction/questions on the forum bears this out. More questions, guys.

No attempts were made to even address the few questions which have been floating around for weeks. Instead, all that is coming out is "I am not guilty. You accuse me wrongly. I did not do it." A variant of Father's theme - thou shalt have oranges and only oranges.

Patrick had the perfect chance to get his point across but at the very last moment, cancelled a meeting with Nizam, who has been more than fair in his Facebook comments on the matter. But no, he had urgent stuff to do, and will meet Nizam in September. September? For what, Patrick?

THAT cancellation leaves a very big gap in the whole campaign theme of "Trust Me, I am Honest Tony" - which will be difficult to plug.

Uncles and Aunties will now ask their children what is this about NS by TT's sons - where they had been ignorant before.

I sincerely empathise with TT - he should not be put through the hoops like this. He deserves better.

But unfortunately, he has been ill-advised and is now paying the price - EVEN if he wins the presidency.

TT is stained.

In the meantime, customers are comparing apples with apples, not apples with oranges.

Sharon Au disowned Jeffrey Au?

Elections are won by the candidate who makes the lessest mistakes.

To be very honest, I see no major campaign boo-boos yet derailing the train.
