Repost.
By a true blue Sinkie.
Is there something systematically wrong with Singapore?
I am saddened as well as lost for words.
How can SCDF send a literally 1/2 baked NS man to the Frontline when there are hundreds of professional fighters fully paid to compensate for the risk related to their job. (BTW Let us remind readers NS men are paid a pittance allowance ONLY).
It begs lots of questions?
1. Are the lives of Singapore sons so cheap? Already, the ground is extremely with the bias or preferential differentiation between locals needing to serve NS while many of the NEW citizens do not even though the latter is still youthful and fit. To rub salt to open wounds, we have members of parliament coming out to defend the NEW citizens. We were asked to break our local tradition to accommodate NEW citizens, eg, cooking curry at certain times of the day.
2. How long does it take to train SCDF fire fighters to qualify to be professional? If NS men can do the job within less or limited time, why the need for expensive training programs for our fire fighters? Are we wasting taxpayers money? Does this all help explain why we need to have GST or even increases in our GST despite many families are in dire financial situation. These inhumane policies are pushing many into suicide thoughts and destroying family relationships.
Whose parents intentionally bring up their sons to 18 years old to be killed by irresponsible policies? Let's be transparent because local citizens for the longest time trusted policy makers with their most precious commodity, their sons. A minister said in parliament it is a privilege as well as obligation. Please reveal how many Ministers their sons are placed in well protected vocations in NS with less dangerous jobs or doing things to advance their career while serving their NS time. It is time for local citizens for once and for all, for policy makers to disprove there is practice of Animal Farm in Singapore instead we have meritocracy.
The pain the NS man's parents have to go through is unimaginable. No number of State funeral, perhaps crocodile tears from who's who and etc which will soon past, but the parents have to live without their son for the rest of their lives. All future plans for their son were taken away.
Please do not find low ranking scapegoat to punish, responsibility begins with the admission that the buck stops with me.
Why are policy makers who should be spending more time making citizens lives better and not trying to fix them by increasing tax after tax, including GST. They should stop wasting time conducting days after days of Inquiries. Ministers should stop being actors for documentaries, posting Facebook on other country's affairs or their sporting feats.
Me is also local Singaporeans, we don't take care of ourselves or voice our needs for better lives, then we only have ourselves to blame.
Look towards up North. Nobody can predict the future. Many claims opposition cannot make it. But how does these same individuals so smart can have total faith in Military General turning to politicians without a day spent in private sector and teaching businessman how to conduct business.
Yet some find it acceptable to relearn that cotton comes from sheep.
We wish the parents of this unfortunate son of Singapore well.
