SINGAPORE: Train service along the Circle Line was delayed during the morning rush hour on Wednesday (Nov 2) due to an “intermittent signal fault”, operator SMRT said.
The transport operator first posted a tweet about the incident at 7.37am. It told commuters to factor in 10 minutes’ additional travelling time between Pasir Panjang and One North stations due to a signalling fault.
Two minutes later, it posted another tweet saying the fault had been cleared but that commuters should still expect delays as trains and stations were crowded.
However, at 8.04am, SMRT tweeted again saying that train service in the opposite direction was also affected due to a signalling fault. It did not say whether it was the same fault that had affected service earlier or a different fault, but said it was investigating the problem.
Five minutes later, it posted another tweet telling commuters travelling from Botanic Gardens to HarbourFront stations to factor in an additional 10 minutes’ travel time. It later revised this to 20 minutes, and again to 30 minutes, and said it was due to an “intermittent signal fault”.
Free bus services are available at all Circle Line stations, it added.
The delay on Wednesday comes after train service on the Circle Line was repeatedly delayed on five consecutive days in September due to signalling issues.
Commuters took to social media to express their frustration, with many complaining of overcrowded trains and stations.
