The elderly and those who need to organize big specialized tour itinerary. There are certain places whereby it helps to have a tour guide. I recall there was one underground dormant volcano site in Iceland that makes it compulsory to have guided tour.

Even the younger folks like to use travel agencies from time to time.

This is essentially a travel agency for Japan, which is also a cafe:

For the less adventurous, getting into a tour group is good for travelling to a country for the first time, especially if that country seems very unfamiliar or exotic. It gives you a 'crash course' on the country or city. Then in future, they can travel there by themselves.

I know ppl who swear by tour agencies for arranging everything for them just go and enjoy. No fuss.
you pay to be served so why not.

I would agree that with a guided tour, one can get to see more in a shorter time and thus offer more value for your money, albeit can be quite rushing at times. For me, a guided tour will definitely beat a DIY one because too much planning would have to be involved for the latter. Of course there are some who said that guided tours won't allow you to sleep till later in the morning, but I would say that if that's what one likes, then better to stay at home and sleep till whatever time you like.

Good news.
The banking sector should have been fucked hard a long time ago.

SINGAPORE - STA Travel, which had a strong presence in the universities here, is winding up, affecting as many as 682 customers who are listed as creditors for sums possibly going up to $84,088.

It stopped operating on Sept 9, after its parent company based in Switzerland filed for insolvency in August.

The potential creditors were listed in a notice issued last Thursday (Sept 24) by one of the appointed provisional liquidators from audit firm Deloitte and Touche, on behalf of STA Travel.

The smallest sum was $7. The biggest sum of $84,088 is said to be owed to an individual but the notice also lists organisations, including the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Republic Polytechnic.

Other listed organisations include the CPF Board, the Esplanade, the Singapore Scouts Association and Singtel.

The notice said creditors will still need to file proof of the debt said to be owed.

Among the 682 on the list is National University of Singapore (NUS) undergraduate Teoh Xin Yi, 22, who had received $917 in STA Travel vouchers after her flight to Japan was cancelled in April due to travel restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Most travel agents depend on company accounts , not so much as walk in customers ...companies usually don’t hunt for discounts ...it’s a captive market and margin of profits are more than reasonable ...but the gist is credit given to companies that may stretch beyond 120 days , but usually only for 30 days but such travel agents do get credit from airlines too , not more than 60 days

Than there is another service only Travel agencies can do not airlines ..package tours ...say A travel Agency has contact with B airline who flies to and fro at off peak hours at less than half the normal rate ...than a newly built 5 star hotel badly needs business and willing to sell rooms at 70 % discount ...now all the A travel agency does is book 200 seats in B airline as well as 100 twin rooms in that new hotel ,,, the rest is sight seeing usual arrangements

now the Avtravel agency will this packaged tour to other agencies at more discount than they are selling directly to customers ...the customer will do his maths and find this package is far more cheaper than free and easy by himself

that’s how travel Agence do and survive ..bulk buying and selling
