TORTOISES FORCED TO FERRY PRC TOURISTS SEEN CRYING IN PICTURES

There is a public outcry in the PRC after pictures emerged of tourists riding a pair of tortoises in a zoo in Xiamen, China.

According to news reports, the tortoises have been made too ferry tourists non-stop during opening hours of the zoo, with many tourists paying and queuing to ride on these abused tortoises.

One eye witness said that he once saw a man weighing over a 100KG sitting on one of the tortoises. Because of the man's sheer weight, the tortoise could not move at all.

Seeing the man's displeasure, a female zoo keeper took a screw driver and poked at the tortoise's exposed limbs and even tried to dig at the tortoise's retracted head.

The tortoises are national treasures of the Republic of Mauritius. They were gifted to the Xiamen provincial government in 2012 and are approximately 60 years old today
