A police chief in China has been sacked following the case where a teacher was brutally beaten by police after being mistaken for a fugitive involved in a gangfight.
The incident occurred on May 3 in Shehong County in southwest China.
The teacher, Yu Hui, was stopped by a plainclothes policeman investigating a gangfight, but Yu allegedly ignored him and tried to run off.
A group of seven other plainclothes policemen then surrounded Yu, stripped his clothes off and beat him up for half an hour.
According to Chinese television news report, Yu's colleagues who witnessed the incident outside the school tried to intervene and clarify that Yu is a teacher but the officers continued to rain blows on Yu.
The teacher at Shehong County Middle School suffered bruises and internal bleeding as a result of the attack.
Following the incident, more than 10,000 students and staff at took to the streets demanding an explanation.
The public security bureau later apologised, saying it was a case of mistaken identity. All officers involved in the beating were also sacked.
