AirAsia chief executive officer Tony Fernandes on Sunday (May 13) issued an apology, days after he received flak for ferrying former Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak on a Barisan Nasional-themed flight.

He had painted a company jet in the blue colour of BN, which also carried its campaign slogan, and also appeared in a video, in which he credited the government for AirAsia's success.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, he explained that he had buckled under the intense pressure from the government.

Tony Fernandes is a real fucking snake. Now that BN has lost, he turns around and said he didn't want to support BN. I am 100% sure that this bastard will sing a different tune if BN had won. Should boycott this bastard AirAsia!

Look at what this fat fuck snake said before the election results!

Tony Fernandes says he owes AirAsia’s success as one of the biggest international brands to Najib’s government

Fernandes retold the story of AirAsia’s success, using the opportunity to remind Malaysians to “vote wisely” at the May 9 polls.

“We won lots and lots of awards and I credit the Government who’s had to manage both GLCs and companies such as ours in seeing what’s best for Malaysia,” he said.

He began the video telling viewers that he was speaking from the heart, reminding them that the lead-up to the polls was a “very, very important period for the country as we decide which Government we want, and which leader we want”.

Fernandes said he believes that the Government has put the “country first”, which has benefited Malaysians.

He said: “I believe the Prime Minister put the people first and allowed AirAsia to grow despite opposition from all over the place.”

In a tongue-in-cheek moment, the 54-year-old also asked viewers to heed his story as “fact”.

He said: “So you know, don’t listen to all the press, there are a lot of fake news, a lot of fake news about me most of the time, as well. Don’t go to the polls based on information that may not be accurate, based on hearsay.”

In March a false report emerged, claiming that Fernandes had resigned from his current role as CEO.

In the clip, he also attributed AirAsia’s growth to market-based policies, through protectionism being brought down, and hopes that there will be “more AirAsias, there will be more jobs created, (and) there will be more metritocracy”.

“That is the Malaysia I dream for.”

Supermax Corp Bhd group managing director Datuk Seri Stanley Thai has expressed regret for getting involved in campaigning for the Opposition in the 13th general election (GE13).

Extending a formal apology to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at a press conference here on Saturday, Thai said he was influenced by the Opposition's propaganda in the previous general election, and realised that it was wrong for him as a businessman to be involved in politics.

Snakes are easy to recognise. More so those snakes that bet on the wrong horse.

Tun M and Anwar folks have been bitten by these snakes often. Not likely to forget.

Tony Fernandes better apply some lubricant and brace for Dr Mad. Knowing the old fox, he's sure to deal the fucking snake a heavy hand.

That explains everything now, doesn't it?

Early life and education[edit]

Fernandes was born in Kuala Lumpur on 30 April 1964 to an Indian father (originally from Goa[3]) and a mother of mixed Indian (Malayali[4]) and Asian-Portuguese (Kristang) descent who had been raised in Malacca, Malaysia.[3][5] At a young age, he would follow his mother who sold Tupperware at Tupperware parties.[5]

He was educated at The Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur. Starting at age 12, from 1976 to 1983, he studied at Epsom College boarding school in England.[6] He matriculated to the London School of Economics and graduated with a degree in accounting.[7]

Najib used coercion like tax penalties, license issues and contract termination to force rogue businesses to conform.

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes on Sunday (May 13) apologised for having appeared to back Najib Razak and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the run-up to the May 9 election, saying that he had "buckled" under pressure from the previous administration.

Fernandes had appeared in a video, which was posted on Free Malaysia Today’s YouTube page on May 6, where he credited the government for AirAsia's success. In it, he also said: "I believe the Prime Minister put the people first and allowed AirAsia to grow despite opposition from all over the place."

Then on May 7, Najib posted pictures of himself boarding an AirAsia aircraft from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur. The plane sported the livery "Hebatkan Negaraku" (Make My Country Greater), which was BN's campaign slogan.

In a seven-minute video posted on Facebook on Sunday, Fernandes apologised for his actions, saying he thought the moves "would appease the government", which he said had been pressurising him over AirAsia's decision to provide extra flights for Malaysians abroad to fly back home to vote.

“Foolishly I thought by doing the video - which I felt was fairly neutral and factual - and the plane from Kota Kinabalu would appease the government and protect the jobs of allstars (AirAsia staff) and more importantly, the very essence of allowing more than 80 million people to fly every year with low fares," he said.

"Under the intense pressure, I buckled. It wasn’t right, I'll forever regret it." Fernandes said.

"I apologise once again for the pain and the hurt I caused."
