Why this is important
We all should have the rights to wear what best represents our identity. It is time Singapore moves forward from discriminating our Muslim women. By preventing them from wearing the hijab at the workplace is unconstitutional by law of the Minority Rights Act here. We must move forward from mere tolerance to one of deeper understanding and mutual respect.
Why is wearing the hijab/tudung important to Muslim women? It is actually a religious obligation. For better explanation please watch this youtube link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o3Be-3H0UI
However, please don't start judging all Muslim women who choose not to wear the hijab with the same yardstick. It is their choice and we should all respect individual's choices. Please watch this youtube link:

This is what this petition is all about. Giving one a free choice to dress in a manner that best represent their identity, be it for fashion statement or religious obligation. Diversity should be celebrated rather than feared here in Singapore. It is not entirely difficult to allow uniform jobs like nurses to wear the hijab. If there is an issue of uniformity, I believe our Muslim women are willing to comply with our employers to wear hijabs/tudungs that are of the same colour as the uniform to portray a commonality image. That is all that we are asking for, the rights to wear our personal dressing that is non-discriminatory against any particular group in Singapore and celebrates our diversity, identity and culture.
