In the Bible, forgiveness is pardoning a person who has wronged us, which involves letting go of resentment and the desire for revenge, much like a debt is cancelled. It is not the same as forgetting or condoning the offence, but to respond with mercy. A central theme is that we are to forgive others as God has forgiven them through Jesus Christ.
