The general bad attitude of, and shoddy service provided by taxi drivers in Singapore has annoyed STOMPer ah_guan so much that the STOMPer has penned this open letter to all cabbies here. ah_guan's message is simple: Cabbies should clean up their act or risk losing their customers.
“To all taxi drivers in Singapore: Treasure your customers.
“Don't just wait for passengers to make a booking just so you can take advantage of the $3 surcharge.
“Be more hardworking while on the road: Don't be picky about your destinations.
“Do pick up any customers along the roads, and accede to their requests to go to any destination.
“If you don't do that, you will lose all your customers when the future MRT line is operational.
“I can go almost anywhere within 30 to 45 minutes when I take the train (the time I usually spend waiting for a taxi).
“I would rather wait 5 to 10 minutes for a train, than wait 30 minutes to an hour by the roadside without knowing if I can even get a cab.
“The MRT trains may be crowed, but I can always wait for the next train because I know when it will be arriving.
“When I take the train, I don’t have to deal with traffic jams, long waits, and extra charges (despite the bad service).
“So don't blame your customers if you lost your job... blame yourself.”
