Will we see a kind and generous elder brother step in to salvage Punggol East?

Will Punggol East turn out to be a multi-corner fight? At this moment, it looks like it but it doesn't have to end up being so.

The situation can be salvaged if WP wants to win by turning it into a one-to-one fight with the PAP. It is unrealistic to expect the other opposition parties to pull out on their own at this stage without losing credibility for the next round. There must be something on the table for them to walk away with. What they want most, after first and foremost seeing the PAP defeated, is to showcase their policies and their people, and run in their party machinery. If WP is serious about winning and believes that the other opposition parties will chip away their margin of victory, then it has the option of reaching out to them, requesting them to step aside from contesting but promising them a place on the campaign stage to articulate their policy proposals and a serious discussion to demarcate territories in the 2016 GE to avoid 3-corner fights. I think most reasonable people would agree that this is the way a kind and generous elder brother would act.

It will be a win-win for all. WP will also find that its flanks will be much fortified in taking on the PAP as shown in the AIM saga when a lot of the ideas came from outside the WP. It will set the stage for a combined opposition movement to bring down the PAP government in 2016. Isn't this what we are all looking forward to in our fight for a better life for all Singaporeans?

A sensible suggestion, the idealist that TJS is.

Sadly, the opposition parties are not ready even for this level of co-operation.

Still have time now, it is never too late to reach this kind of deal among them. PAP will lose this PE then.

Finally, Tan Jee Say shows how it should have been done in the first place. In politics, you don't treat people as being stupid (unless you're the PAP).

You say what you mean. You say what you want, and you present something that's reasonable. You don't try to fuck the other guy, and pretend that you weren't trying to fuck the other guy.

If this announcement by the other parties was a co-ordinated effort to extract concessions from the WP, it would be a remarkable thing. Except of course, the reality is that WP doesn't really give a shit about whether or not there is a multi-corner fight because WP does not lose out if there is a multi-corner fight.

Reason I say this - WP may win a seat in a straight fight, but that's unlikely.
In a multi-corner fight, WP will poll the best among the opposition candidates - that is practically guaranteed. And it will emerge as the winner among the opposition parties. So when LTK acts like he doesn't give a shit, he really really doesn't give a shit.

But nice try, Tan Jee Say. He's doing it the way that Chee Soon Juan should have done it in the first place.

So this raises questions:

he's talking independently of the SDP now?
He's been in talks with RP and SDA?
SDP has been in talks with RP and SDA?
TJS looks like an unofficial "leader of the opposition?"

And most importantly:

How many fuckers are going to compete in PE by election?

The WP wants all the opposition seats for itself and would rather crush the other opposition parties in the process.

General of the Armies (minus 10 ranks) cum Field Marshall (minus 9 ranks) Goh Meng Seng talk so big but chickened out in Moulmein Kallang.

A sensible suggestion, the idealist that TJS is.

Sadly, the opposition parties are not ready even for this level of co-operation.

TJS is no longer with SDP.

I know. But is it:

1. TJS is speaking in the capacity of somebody who might team up with SDP again one day?
2. TJS knows that he will never go back to SDP.

I know they have parted ways. The question is: did they part ways as friends or enemies?

TJS was speaking in his personal capacity.

They parted ways as amicable friends.

TJS thought he was the big cheese, and, back in late 2011, he suggested an "anti-PAP coalition".
Did any opposition party rush to him? Seems like most gave him a very wide berth.

As I said, Singaporeans are not mature enough for a coalition. M'sians are more advanced in this regard.
