SINGAPORE: Police have arrested three men aged between 24 and 35 for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loanshark harassment.

In the first case, at about 2.30 pm Sunday, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested a 24-year-old suspect near Tampines Street 93 for loanshark harassment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be responsible for several cases of loanshark harassment island-wide.

Mobile phones believed to contain debtors' records have been seized.

In the second case, at about 6.45 am Monday, officers arrested two suspects aged 32 and 35 near Tampines Street 43 for loanshark harassment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects are also believed to be responsible for several cases of loanshark harassment in several areas.

The suspects locked debtors' units, splashed paint and drew graffiti on walls.

Loanshark-related items including mobile phones, note-books, markers and bicycle locks were seized from the suspects' homes.

The suspects will be charged in court Tuesday.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment may face a jail term of up to five years, a fine of S$50,000, and may also be caned.
