I have written quite a far bit on Loh Lin Kok.
It's not personal. It's just I have had enough of his long reign & everything about his reign.
I am not alone - he has more crtics than supporters in Spore, if a straw poll is conducted anytime. But where it matters, amongst SAA affiliates, his popularity has resulted in him returned as President term after term virtually since 1982.
So why are people like me giving him grief ?
His supporters or sympathizers produced an interesting argument - let's acknowledge his contribution : his effort, sacrifice, time, money for this thankless task of being SAA President Why should he slog for decades when he could make more $ or time with family ?
That led me to think one of the possible reasons could be he has the Messiah Complex.
He is not alone. I think LKL also has the Messiah Complex.
Simply put, people like tem believe they are the Messiah - one & only, with only them capable of or best judged to save the masses.
The Messiah Complex is both good & bad.
The Good
(1) Capable of great dedication, sacrifice, effort
(2) Tenacious & resilient
(3) great sense of mission - a feeling of indispensability, failing which, a sense that only the 'right successor' will do, no compromise. Otherwise they will slog & fight on.
Sounds familiar ? Loh's utterances on SAA Election & LKY's famous 'up from death bed' resolve come mind. Lee Teng Hui, ex-Taiwan President too.
The Bad
(1) Autocratic & Dictatorial
(2) Unconscious bullying behaviour
(3) Control freak behaviour - only the Messiah knows the Right Way !
(4) Sense of Indispensability
(5) Banyan Tree Effect - hard for worthy successor to emerge
(6) Persecution Complex natural twin - that others are against them, out to wreck them
To me, this is a massive subject beyond my coverage here.
There is a difference between people with Messiah Effect & people with Messiah Complex.
Those with the effect are usually charismatic inspirational transformational leaders. Obama comes to mind - his election run turn the whole world on.
Those with Messiah Complex may or may not have the Messiah Effect - but typically are egositc and recalcitrant. Self righteous & distrustful.
There is the greatest fear or risk :
That the beneficiaries of these Messiah's are at the mercy of the Messiah's competence & sense of reality (a key HELICOPTER quality).
What if their sense of reality is way off ?
What if they are incompetent ?
Imagine LKY had read his political ecosystem wrongly & had a different worldview then ?
Imagine if he & his team had been less competent.
With the same tenacity & high IQ/EQ/AQ he would not necessarily be a blessing to his intended beneficiaries - the people.
Notice I have only mentioned competence & sense of reality & have never questioned Loh Lin Kok's integrity here or in all my earlier posts.
So far, no suggestion of financial impropriety.
Long may that continue.
