An Anniversary Retrospective Of Asylee Amos Yee — A Report Card On 10 Key Players Behind The Amos Asylum Scandal
A first-year anniversary look-back on the now largely disenchanted fan base of Amos Yee: with the exception of a dwindling handful of supporters, most of the fans/followers (such as his fairy godmother Melissa Chen) whom Amos did so mesmerize and bamboozle since 2015, are now totally disillusioned with their freedom-of-speech icon.

It was about a year ago in late Dec. 2016, the Singapore teen hellion Amos Yee made local media headline news, having bolted abruptly from Singapore to America seeking political asylum. At that time Amos was still being hailed by his admirers as the pluperfect poster boy of free speech escaping ‘persecution’ at home for a piece of freedom paradise in Wonderland. But holy moly, just what difference a year makes. And if Mary Toh (Amos’ mother) who has made no secret of her exhortation to her son to flee the country, were told a year ago that her son upon arrival in the States would be incarcerated for 10 long months, after which he would be driven homeless, booted from pillar to post — from the Windy City to the Twin Cities to Frisco by the Bay all within a month — that a local YouTuber would threaten Amos’ life for his being an apologist-activist to the paedophilia demimonde and consequently his Internet banking lifeline (Paypal donation-receiving account) would be permanently terminated — indeed, any such speculative prattle would have been summarily dismissed by the mother as issuing from some surly critic merely blowing smoke. But good grief, 12 months on after she last saw her son, Mary Toh has now but to put all such improbable Amos talk in her pipe and smoke it — what occurrences that would only seem too far-fetched have all transpired for Amos Yee in the last 12 months. Hollywood couldn’t have written a more improbable script: according to self-styled ‘fourth-wave free-speech absolutist’ Amos Yee, as America’s freshly minted teen political dissident asylee — courtesy of U.S. Immigration Judge Samuel Cole — babies are permitted to diddle with adult penis like lollipop in mouth as long as babies/toddlers themselves relish such oral stimulation. (Just check out the above highlighted YouTube ‘babies’ link at time sequence 23:45 if you are oblivious of what he’s been up to lately.)

Here now a who’s who behind the infamous free-speech career of this 19-year-old Singaporean hellion:

1. Alphonsus Yee and Mary Toh: as parents of Amos, there is no question they are to take the lion’s share of the blame. Their remissness in turning a blind eye to their son’s 2015 video hijinks became the watershed moment in the then 16-year-old’s life: from the comfort of his home, Amos was allowed to broadcast his mindlessly insensitive and obnoxious 2015 Internet video philippic against founder LKY while the nation was officially in the midst of mourning the passing of its founder; in that vid, Amos even taunted members of the bereaved family, daring Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the eldest scion of the deceased, ‘to come dance with’ him. De mortius nil nisi bonum, a Latin phrase meaning to speak no ill of the dead — particularly during one’s funeral — is a universally honored tradition that dates back to antiquity. The ensuing dark cloud that hung over Amos’ parents for their monumental failure to have their son observe even the most basic of expected funereal propriety, should rightly stay with them for the rest of their lives.

2. Melissa Chen was perhaps the most ironic and controversial protagonist in the Amos asylum saga. This fairy godmother of Amos once partook in a Singapore public park rally to ‘free Amos Yee’ only to subsequently ensnare her mentee through a slovenly hatched asylum-seeking maneuver that landed Amos straight in the slam for 10 protracted months. From the outset, being a speech-rights absolutist as Melissa touted herself to be, she had put her heart and soul in her purported boy wonder, as if he was some newfound gift to her no-holds-barred free-speech activism in America. For the record, in an early Jan. Fb post this year, I did caution against her engaging in the myth of Amos, to which she responded: ‘So if things don’t work out I will absolutely shoulder the blame.’ But that was year ago; let’s give credit where credit is due presently. Since mid Nov. Melissa Chen has made public her total repudiation of Amos Yee. No longer even a frenemy, the fairy godmother has now completely severed ties with her mentee… citing her Nov. 19 Fb post over her clean break with Amos: ‘…to champion pedophilia as your cause célèbre makes you one of the most awful human beings I have ever crossed path with.’ And in her another response in that same thread to a poster named A. Machiraju, the quondam fairy godmother did finally come to terms with Amos’ mental state: ‘He talks to himself, he walks in circles, has zero empathy, has zero understanding of how to read or how to respond to social cues. He is a BASKET CASE.’ Indeed, Amos Yee himself could have well foreshadowed the above to his fairy godmother a full 3 years ago — if only Melissa had taken the trouble to read what Amos wrote about himself in his rambling 4k-word secondary-school farewell blog essay dated Jan. 25, 2015… quoting excerpts from the 2nd paragraph: ‘Admittedly, it was also because of my own personal flaws, that contributed to my alienation. I was not a person who was capable of empathy, and was short of the capability to say things that made people feel good.’

3. The Hon. Judge Samuel Cole: this U.S. Immigration Judge then merely 6 months in office was evidently being put upon by an apparently convincing one-time kid actor from Singapore who was anointed political dissident in March by the judge. Someday though question would surely be raised about how a pedo slipped through the cracks to become part of the community on the POTUS’s watch… expect feathers to fly then and finger-pointing to follow.

4. Attorney Elizabeth Crites of Dept. of Homeland Security, the DHS Assistant Chief Counsel who twice litigated against Amos Yee’s asylum bid and twice lost, has really nothing to write home about regarding her career prospects in her current Department. As noted in Judge Cole’s ruling commentary, there wasn’t any witness rebuttal at all attempted by the gov. plaintiff lawyer(s).

5. Mr. Phil Robertson, deputy director of Human Rights Watch’s Asia division in Dec. 2016 commented: ‘Amos Yee is the sort of classic political dissident that the UN Refugee Convention was designed to protect.’ … but as of today all Mr. Robertson is left with is egg on his face.

6. The disabused American contingent: 1. Mr. Theodore Gray, the American computer scientist initially housed Amos Yee in his basement following his Sept. release from his 10-month detention only to have Amos booted out in a hurry. 2. Mr. Adam Lowisz, the one-man band to welcome Amos upon his release and whose generous ‘loan’ of 4 grand to Amos during his long incarceration so that he could snack on munchies of Twinkies and Fritos, had to be genuinely heart-broken as he facebooked on Nov. 17/18 the following: I was hoping he would focus more on LGBT activism and on helping persecuted minorities such as ex-Muslims in South East Asia once out of prison. Millions were depending on him. 3. Ms. Sandra Grossman, Amos Yee’s pro-bono asylum attorney, mustn’t let herself repine over her hitching the legal wagon to the wrong pony — no doubt from here on out, she would be much the wiser in vetting her pro bono client in the future, understanding that character and conduct do matter just as much as one’s freedom and desire for expression.

7. Mr. Kenneth Jeyaretnam, a Singapore opposition politico who publicly testified in person for Amos at his March asylum hearing, did the Singapore gov. a favor by helping unload a noisome number onto the U.S. One can only wonder if he would have second thoughts about doing the same for the hellion today.

8. Singapore District Judge Jasvender Kaur‘s klutzy ‘over-punishment’ in 2015 of a 16-year-old first-time ‘speech’ offender — with reverberations that continue to this day — will henceforth serve as a haunting reminder against Rhadamanthine sentences/incarcerations for youthful nonviolent non-recidivists; every non-threatening juvenile deserves at least a break in court.

9. The discombobulated Singapore contingent of Amos supporters/defenders, to name but 3 of them: 1. The Online Citizen‘s bulletin board of pro-Amos posters are in a state of cognitive dissonance, apparently struggling to reconcile with the reality of what their beau idéal of free speech has degenerated into — no, with Amos you just can’t separate the message from the messenger. (Click on the preceding link to sample some of the awkward exchanges of the pro-pedo Amos fellow travelers.) 2. Mr. Alfian Sa’at, a prominent Singapore playwright who failed to call Amos out for his notorious 2015 vid antics but instead fed his ego by putting him on a pedestal back then, lauded his intelligence as in one instance before his parents only be abruptly corrected by Amos’ dad Alphonsus: ‘But he is not wise.’ 3. Ms. Kirsten Han a local independent journalist continues to perpetuate the freedom-of-speech myth of Amos Yee; for example in her recent Dec. 4 Asia Times.com article she again propagated the fake meme of Amos Yee feigning anguish, pretending to look traumatized and tormented outside the courthouse in front of a phalanx of photojournalists. Previously I did already point out that fakery to her in a blog article of mine.

10. I save the best for last. Amos Yee is of course the creator-in-chief of his own asylum mess. In addition to issues stemming from youthful immaturity and reckless puerile tomfoolery, the hellacious juvenile’s biggest nemesis is without a doubt his outsize personal ego ever bursting at the seams, sputtering arrogance, oozing conceit, dripping hubris. Such are his accursed innate character flaws that turned a precocious award-winning child actor just years earlier into one vulgar, blaspheming 16-year-old rabble-rouser who then wasted no time, agitating to become the current ditzy-proud 19-year-old paedophilia advocate, thereby turning himself literally overnight into an object of public ridicule and loathing in America. Alas, Amos the vaunted poster boy of free speech of the East morphing into an outright social outcast in the West before our very eyes just a month or so after being freed from his 10-month jailhouse sojourn. But for Amos Yee, his present full-time occupation if we may even call it that is perhaps worse than his current addiction to paedophilia/pornography or to his newfound sexual indulgence in Skype-enabled remote mutual onanism (i.e., one-man video sex, in plain popular parlance). Get this…per his paternal grandma and his 2015 defense lawyer, Amos became addicted to the Internet since he was eight. Alas, he who lives and breathes cyberspace and all things cybersphere shall likewise perish by it.

As the penultimate remark here, let me repost a rather prophetically cautionary line from my Oct. 23, 2017 blog article: “In conclusion, if America thinks Amos Yee is merely the new ‘dissident’ next door, just another new kid in town, they have another think coming.” And finally I shall close with a question quotation (coupled with a brief follow-up elaboration) from Ms. Atossa A. Abrahamian‘s Aug. 2017 BuzzFeed.com article: ‘Will America’s first troll government take in one of his own?’ End quote. The short answer is an iffy one. As it is, Amos managed to sail through the first two innings of a 9-inning ballgame, but is now severely hobbled in the third. And I would hazard to bet if President Trump’s merit-based immigration policy were to have its way or for as long as President Trump is in office, Amos will not see his green card let alone his naturalized citizenship which then begs the question: Can Amos Yee survive the next 6 innings without self-imploding? … to the Amos watchers out there, they would have to hold their collective breath for now until a clearer answer presents itself.
