According to Desmond's words in msm, he just wanted to take back his ego of losing deposit in the last GE. Every 1% increase in vote is a win for him, nothing more he would expect.

I don't want to imagine anything more than how he present himself publicly. There was lack of confident when he speaks with fumble and stammer. He will kill the opposition image if he carry on the same "style" of soliciting votes.
