Thieves steal 75kg gold, silver from home

Thieves have stolen 75 kilograms of gold and silver from a Brisbane home on New Year's Eve, using a wheelie bin to move their loot.

Police say that sometime between 6pm (AEST) on Tuesday and 3am on Wednesday thieves broke into the home on Ellie Court in Upper Kedron.

They ransacked several rooms before finding a safe and breaking into it.

The intruders stole gold and silver bullion and coins from the safe worth about $200,000.

Police believe they then used the household wheelie bin to move their loot to the end of the street.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously or any unfamiliar vehicles in Ellie Court during the evening to contact them.
