KUALA LUMPUR - A group of thieves tried to blowtorch their way into an ATM but were unsuccessful and fled the scene leaving behind their equipment.
The attempted theft was discovered by security guards at a hypermarket along Jalan Peel here at about 7.30am yesterday.
City Criminal Investigations Dep*art**ment chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the thieves left behind two blowtorches and the money in the machine had not been touched.
It is learnt that the thieves could have been amateurs.
"They may have known how to break into an ATM in theory but their methods of execution were poor as compared to recent successful ATM thefts," sources revealed.
