Thief caught by passerby

A 40-YEAR-OLD man was was caught by a member of the public as he tried to escape with a stolen wallet. The suspect snatched the wallet of an 18-year-old woman who was having lunch with a friend at a hawker centre located at Margaret Drive. His escape was foiled by 40-year-old Mr Eng, who was sitting nearby and kept an eye on the suspect who had been loitering around the area for quite a while.
On seeing the suspect making off with the victim's wallet, Mr Eng immediately went after him and managed to detain the suspect after a short chase. The suspect will be charged in court on Tuesday. If found guilty, he faces a maximum jail term of three years' imprisonment, or fine, or both.
