A man accused of jointly stealing nearly $20,000 worth of African grey birds and goldfish with the help of two teenagers now faces more serious charges of housebreaking.

The police prosecutor told a district court that the initial four theft charges against Too Kim Thor have been amended to charges of housebreaking.

The offence of housebreaking carries a minimum sentence of two years in jail and a maximum of 14 years. There is no minimum jail term for theft.

Court papers state that the trio stole the exotic pets from farms in Sungei Tengah Road and Pasir Ris Farmway 3 in March last year and September this year .
