I am still waiting for the most hated Catholic High student to go to China and come back dead.
A student from Catholic High School died after he had fallen ill during a school trip to China, media reports said on Monday (9 November).
Luke Chan, 15, had taken medication after coming down with diarrhoea in Shanghai on Wednesday and continued with the trip, returning to Singapore on Friday.
After his return, Luke had diarrhoea and was also vomiting, though he showed no signs of a fever.
Media reports said his mother did not take him to see a doctor as she thought it was just food poisoning. Luke, an only child, had also suggested waiting till the next day to see a doctor.
He fainted in the toilet on Saturday after a severe bout of diarrhoea and was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he later died.
According to Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily, the other students on the trip showed no signs of food poisoning.
Media reports said Luke’s father was seen clutching a school uniform at the mortuary. He described his son as an active boy who loved football and wanted to become a lawyer.
A friend of Luke’s mother told The Straits Times his parents are now waiting for the results of an autopsy, which could take about three months.
