Come 1st January 2012, households in Singapore can expect an average of 2.3% rise in electricity tariffs.
SP Services announced yesterday that electricity tariffs between 1st January and 31st March will increase due to higher fuel prices resulting in higher power generation costs.
A household living in a four-room HDB flat can on average, expect to pay S$2.30 more per month but the average increase for the next three months, however, is lower than the 6.8% increase seen in July 2010 and the 3.0% witnessed in December 2010, SP Services said.
To help cope with the increases in electricity tariffs, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said that about 800,000 Singaporean HDB households can expect to receive S$40 million worth of Utilities-Save (U-Save) rebates in January 2012.
Households in one- and two- room flats will get S$90.00, three-room flats will get S$50.00, four-room flats will get S$45.00, five-room flats will get S$30.00 and those in Executive flats will get S$20.00.
The U-Save rebates to be given are the final tranche of the five years of rebates that were granted as part of the Goods and Services Tax Offset Package beginning in 2007.
