More recently, we have BG (NS) Tan Chuan-Jin (who to his credit has come out more often to engage with citizens), who wrote out his thoughts on Bukit Brown Cemetery (see HERE) and said “We had been deferring work for the last few years to determine how best to meet the needs. We did not consult because it would not be appropriate…It’d have been far easier to defer it and not do anything.”

It’s quite obvious from his post that the Ministry of National Development arrived on this decision to redevelop Bukit Brown Cemetery into a 8-lane public road unilaterally; and that the consultations were an afterthought.

Following reports that he is planning to adjust vehicle growth rates downward to 1.5 per cent, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew wrote on his Facebook, ” you have shared your views on the issue of vehicle growth and how it might impact COE prices. Thank you for all your feedback”. Despite hearing all the feedback, including some which he admits are “useful suggestions”, he said that his Ministry will continue to use the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) system to manage vehicle growth (see HERE).
