You are right! Atheists are very quick to point out about the Crusades but the highest unverified number I've got so far is 9,000,000 deaths. But the Crusades lasted from 1095 and the last one was about 1600. So that gives like 9,000,000 / 500 = 18,000 per year? And the atheists also forgot that the Crusades were mostly a war between the Christians and Muslims so this average figure works out on both sides.

Now nothing can justify the killing of one soul, but during the Rape of Nanjing, 300,000 Chinese were massacred by the Japanese Imperial forces in 4 months. The official religion of Japan during WWII was Shintoism. And nothing compares with the killing by the communists who were essentially atheists. Mao and Stalin accounted for over 100 million deaths during their respective march to communism. And also Pol Pot. Communists are people who have full (blind) faith in their ruler or land. It can be translated as a religion itself...

And i quote Dawkins to say that the so called atheists never committed the acts in the name of atheism. They were done for the greed of power. The crusades, the inquisition, the current terror groups do it in the name of religion.

Besides, i believe it is awfully childish of you to compare the bigger evil by the physical numbers of death generated. Mass murder is mass murder; regardless of the numbers presented. One man killing 5 million as compared to 50 million is still a tragedy nonethe less. If anything you've only proven that the atheists are more effective.
