The day an 11-year-old did not come home from school

Since it was unclear if he had taken the item, why did the teacher force him to apologize and shame him in front of the class?

@sbfuncle can sue the school? This one is clearly vicarious liability, unlike Healing the Divide vs NUS.

Teachers are like many police officers/detectives who wish to close the case at the soonest to show that they are on top of things.

nowadays strawberry toddlers overly protected and pampered until they cannot even stand hearing unpleasant words about them .... they easily break down on scoldings from 3rd party since their own parents and family never ever do such punishment to them in life .... teachers nowadays cannot scold or shout at kids, the parents and kids will complain all the way up to MOE and PMO .... teachers better keep a blind eye and let them be, safer for all.

The Principals are preoccupied with looking good, so teachers want a swift resolution to cases like theft, smoking and truancy, outside of teaching duties. As such, the teachers wish to find the culprit or a scapegoat to show that they are on top of indiscipline.

Our children may consider such accusations unjustified/damaging to their future if they are made a scapegoat, so they take matters into their own hands, thinking suicide may be their only way out.

Together with his wife, 40, who is a homemaker, he has two other sons, the eldest of whom is on the autism spectrum, and two daughters. Yong Le was the second of five children.

Lemme guess, all of their kids were vaccinated. Not just Covid, but the entire schedule.

The day he died, 11-year-old Goh Yong Le was questioned by 2 teachers in the conference room about taking a classmate’s belongings the previous week. He cried 3 times that day. Shortly after school ended, he took his own life.

So sad.

Everyone makes mistakes.
This happens everyday in all schools.
The teachers should have just told the kid say sorry and to be a good boy.

Seems like he had admitted to the stealing or else, he might not have to follow the teachers to find the stolen item that was hidden, unless he was also forced to follow for the search despite not having stolen it. And his parents should be angered instead of saying

Fully aware that suicide is complex, he said that he and his wife do not blame the teachers or school, but they hope to see more understanding for children who have a sensitive nature, like Yong Le
This case will be closed as an honest mistake. Sad.

Whether he had really stolen the item, the handling of the matter was really bad, and the school and moe minister need to do some self Lee flection.

I'm surprise that pri sch student can have the courage to suicide.
If he wasn't the thief, will he have the courage to kill the teacher?

When i was in pri sch, I ever put those small pins to card board on teachers chair to punish them when they sit
Then before it happened, I leemoved it KNN

Stop reading at "Together with his wife, 40, who is a homemaker, he has two other sons, the eldest of whom is on the autism spectrum, and two daughters. Yong Le was the second of five children." and "when one of his favourite snails died, he cried for it, and he cried for hours.

Don't wish to sound cruel but for this kind of special needs child, it might be a blessing for him to go early. Else for such unusual sensitive child, he will end up in a worse state if he manage to grow up, bringing even more pain for his family.

"According to the teachers, he stopped crying each time and he appeared “okay” after that, said his father, a former software platform architect, who now trades on the United States financial markets at night."

In other words, unemployed like @sbfuncle.

Why must people die die associate themselves with a job title? Sooner or later one must retire, and your job title will vanish. KNN, no job no identity?

This is the reason why most S'porean PMEs are not prepared for retirement.

More like, why should you tell your profession (or lack thereof) to those so-called journalists?

Back in 2022, Xavier Yap strangled his 11-year-old autistic twin sons, Aston and Ethan Yap, at Greenridge Crescent, Upper Bukit Timah. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison in August 2023. Looking after the boys resulted in the breakdown of the parents' marriage too.
